Daedalus Wins a GOLD Appliance DESIGN Award

Daedalus is proud to announce that BiliChek, a noninvasive bilirubin meter developed for Philips Children's Medical Ventures, in partnership with Philips Home Healthcare Design, has been granted a Gold award in appliance DESIGN magazine's annual Excellence in Design competition. Bilichek is a handheld medical device used to screen and analyze newborns for high bilirubin levels, without the need to draw blood or perform laboratory tests. With this award, Daedalus and Philips stand in excellent company, alongside just five other Gold winners from Humanscale, LG, Dyson, SAFERA, and Oxo Good Grips.

“The purpose of appliance DESIGN’s annual design competition is to honor those designers who have excelled in meeting the modern challenge of harmoniously melding technology and industrial design,” said Richard Babyak, appliance DESIGN editor. An independent panel of three industrial design experts judged of the entries on four criteria: appearance, human factors, innovation and technical merits. The judges noted that the developers behind the honored entries demonstrated that they are serious about industrial design, and showed that seriousness through attention to detail and innovative approaches that sharply differentiate winning products from their competitors. Another common element among the winners was the ability to make technology more accessible to the user.

The list of winners may be viewed at www.appliancedesign.com/EID, and photos and in-depth descriptions will appear in the print, digital, and online releases of the June 2010 issue of appliance DESIGN. appliance DESIGN is a publication of BNP Media, Troy, Michigan.
