Pill Counter System

Scientific Industries partnered with Daedalus to design and develop the VIVID series of automated pill counters — compact, vision-based systems that bring digital precision and speed to pharmacy counting and verification.

We collaborated across multiple disciplines to create a scalable product family: the VIVID LITE, VIVID ONE, and VIVID WORKSTATION. Industrial and UX design focused on usability, human factors, and a modern, enduring style suited to pharmacy environments. Mechanical and electrical engineering ensured robust hardware performance within a compact footprint, while the software engineers enabled accurate vision-based counting, data capture, and seamless integration with pharmacy workflows.

Across the VIVID line, each configuration builds on the same vision-recognition foundation to meet different workflow needs. The range runs from simple standalone use to fully pharmacy-system-integrated operations, while maintaining USP <800> compliance. VIVID LITE is a compact, standalone base with quick count, pill-fragment detection, assists in identifying incorrect pills, and support for most translucent pills/gelcaps. VIVID ONE builds on these capabilities by connecting to the pharmacy system and automatically saving a tray image of each count for verification, while enabling unit-of-use for bulk counting. VIVID WORKSTATION expands further, combining the counter with a built-in PC that runs pharmacy management software directly on the device. It enables color image capture, telepharmacy support, advanced incorrect-pill identification by color/shape, and inventory tools.

Focused on usability, precision, and reliability, Daedalus helped Scientific Industries create a product line that helps pharmacies improve patient safety and automate documentation while saving time and cost.
