Handheld CO Detector

The Sensorcon Protector is a standout example of Daedalus’ end-to-end product development—from concept through production alignment. Sensorcon needed a next-generation handheld CO detector that was faster, smarter, and easier to use in demanding environments like HVAC, emergency services, and industrial safety. We delivered a fully integrated solution through close collaboration across Industrial Design, Interface and Interaction Design, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Software Development, and Human Factors.

Our team designed a compact, rugged device optimized for one-handed use and visibility in tough field conditions. The high-contrast display clearly presents gas levels, alarms, and time-weighted averages, while coordinated visual, audio, and vibration alerts ensure immediate recognition. We also created a scalable calibration dock system that’s both space-efficient and easy to use.

Through acoustic research and testing, we refined the alarm’s frequency, loudness, and pattern to meet regulatory and real-world demands. Mechanical design amplified the alarm output while preserving IP67 sealing, serviceability, and ergonomic integrity. We developed the full embedded system—writing the firmware, integrating Bluetooth connectivity, and enabling intelligent data logging and power management.

The result: a category-leading CO detector with faster alarm response, superior usability, and enhanced safety. The Sensorcon Protector reflects how Daedalus' integrated approach leads to products that are not only technically excellent—but trusted and effective in the field.
