Tim Fletcher judges China’s Red Star Design competition

In August, Tim Fletcher, Daedalus Business Manager, joined the international panel assembled at the Beijing Industrial Design Center to judge the 2011 Red Star Awards. These awards are the nationally authorized design awards for China, and the invited panel included renowned designers and design educators from China, the UK, Korea, France, the UN, the Netherlands and the US. Tim, who had the honor of judging the Commercial Products category, stated:

It is always impressive how quickly design is becoming embedded in commercial products, especially in China. These industries have traditionally been state owned enterprises where design has moved much slower than in private industry. From super computers to occupational safety equipment, user-centered design principles are noticeable in the entries I saw.
